Interesting Video

Today we watched The Machine is Us/ing Us Although the video was short, I did find it quite interesting. One of the things things that stood out was that humans click on web pages more than 100 billion times a day. The video was uploaded in 2007 and since then, technology has evolved extremely rapidly. With just about everyone, at least in the United States, having a smartphone, I'm sure that the number of clicks has more than doubled since then.

Another point was that we now have to rethink our view or definition of copyright, ethics, identity, love, privacy as our technologies are changing. In other words, we have to rethink the way we view technology. Dating used to be only in the physical world; you'd go out and meet someone somewhere. Now, dating is mostly done online. With various applications helping you find someone and the technology that allows you video chat with them, you can date without ever leaving the comfort of your own home.

What I want from TINST 207

In class today, I was asked what I hoped to get out of our class. Honestly, I first took this course because I needed full-time hours to get financial aid loans. However, since starting the class, I'm hoping to learn more about the history of technology; and perhaps, learn of new technologies that have once evaded me.

I'm current a Junior in Computer Science and have taken various classes at Bellevue College prior to attending the University of Washington. Some of these classes include HTML and Mobile Technologies. Since this course is intended for non Information Technology students, it overlaps with a lot of my computer science courses. Anyways, hopefully I can learn some new information or get a firmer understanding of the things I already know.
